Imposing a fine of Rs 25,000 on him, additional sessions judge Sanjeev Kumar awarded the jail term to Rohini resident Sunil Yadav saying the prosecution has proved that his wife committed suicide because of his cruelty.
“Instead of supporting her to settle in the new home after marriage, the convict tortured her mentally and physically. The victim’s trauma is reflected in the diary she used to write. The convict does not deserve any leniency,” the court said.
The court, however, acquitted Sunil’s father Ved Prakash, mother Omwati, brother Satish and sister-in-law Sharmila of the charges of harassing the victim. They were also acquitted of dowry charges.
The woman was found dead in Rohini on May 22, 2005 after she committed suicide by hanging herself. The couple got married in April 2003 and has a 10-year-old son.
The court rejected Sunil’s the submission that his wife had committed suicide as she was unable to face pressure of multi-tasking.
